چکیده
SUMMARY Palaeomagnetic field intensity measurements, derived from rocks with ages that span geological time, provide a crucial constraint on the evolution of Earth’s deep interior and its magnetic environment. The palaeointensity database PINT has been updated to version v.8.0.0 includes site-mean records spanning an interval 50 ka 4.2 Ga, compiling efforts palaeomagnetic community 1959 end 2019. Nearly all have assessed using qualitative reliability (quality palaeointensity, QPI) framework. This brings together harmonizes prior QPI compilation into unified referred as database, incorporating recent since 2014 assess QPI. spatio-temporal distribution is analysed, revealing substantial biases towards young (from Brunhes chron) in Northern hemisphere, intervals little no data duration 10s 100s millions years Palaeozoic Precambrian. General compliance characterized for which shows median scores range 2 3 (out total possible score 10), positive trend increasing studies published after year 2000. illustrates awareness what required establish confidence robustness large scale interpretations can be made these data. We additionally present description long-term average dipole strength descriptive statistics distinct Earth history.

Early formation of the Moon 4.51 billion years ago
Establishing the age of the Moon is critical to understanding solar system evolution and the formation of rocky planets, including Earth. However, despite its importance, the age of the Moon has never been accurately determined. We present uranium-lead dating of Apollo 14 zircon fragments that yield highly precise, concordant ages, demonstrating that they are robust against postcrystallization ...
متن کامل0 The nuclear interaction at Oklo 2 billion years ago ∗
We re-examine the effort to constrain the time-variability of the coupling constants of the fundamental interactions by studying the anomalous isotopic abundance of Sm observed at the remnants of the natural reactors which were in operation at Oklo about 2 billion years ago, in terms of a possible deviation of the resonance energy from the value observed today. We rely on new samples that were ...

We re-examine Shlyakhter’s effort to constrain the time-variability of the coupling constants of the fundamental interactions by studying the anomalous isotopic abundance of Sm observed at the remnants of the natural reactors which were in operation at Oklo about 2 billion years ago. We rely on new samples that were carefully collected to minimize natural contamination and also on a careful tem...
متن کاملOrbital forcing of climate 1.4 billion years ago.
Fluctuating climate is a hallmark of Earth. As one transcends deep into Earth time, however, both the evidence for and the causes of climate change become difficult to establish. We report geochemical and sedimentological evidence for repeated, short-term climate fluctuations from the exceptionally well-preserved ∼1.4-billion-year-old Xiamaling Formation of the North China Craton. We observe tw...
متن کاملRapid oxygenation of Earth’s atmosphere 2.33 billion years ago
Molecular oxygen (O2) is, and has been, a primary driver of biological evolution and shapes the contemporary landscape of Earth's biogeochemical cycles. Although "whiffs" of oxygen have been documented in the Archean atmosphere, substantial O2 did not accumulate irreversibly until the Early Paleoproterozoic, during what has been termed the Great Oxygenation Event (GOE). The timing of the GOE an...
